It's with a heavy heart that we inform NAIFA-New Jersey members that NAIFA-New Jersey's Past President and former lobbyist, Russell (Russ) Francis Bent has passed away at the age of 90.

Russ was the New Jersey president in 1975-1976 and then became the state lobbyist for over two decades before retiring approximately ten years ago.

Condolences can be sent to Paul Bent (current lobbyist) at PO Box 559, Rancocas, NJ 08023.

Obituary: Russ was born on January 13,1931 to the late Russell and Anna Bent in Foxboro Massachusetts, the home of his favorite sports team, the New England Patriots.

He will be dearly missed by his wife Kay, children Stephen (Clarissa) Bent, Traci Wright, Paul (Amy) Bent and stepson Michael (Paula) Lauria. He was adored by his grandchildren Christopher, Matthew, Delaney, Elizabeth and Derek who affectionately referred to him as “Gramps”. Russ is also survived by his sisters Joyce Reardon and MaryAnne (Owen) Forrest and sister-in-law Dorothy Graf as well as many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his son Rusty in 1983 and younger brother David in 2001.

Russell served in the United States Military and was a proud Marine, obtaining the rank of Captain. Following his years of service he worked in the insurance industry before he established his own government relations business which would become Pathways Government Relations. He was commonly referred to as a “Senior Statesman” with all of the respect that commanded.

Russ candidly described himself as “a man of few words”. He was the definition of a gentleman and he will be remembered for his quiet, thoughtful and loving nature, work ethic and moral integrity. To all who have known and loved Russ it has been an honor and a privilege.
